Women's Health Q & A

What is women’s health?

Women’s health is a branch of medicine that deals with common health problems that many women face. Examples include:

  • Pelvic pain
  • Abnormal menstrual bleeding
  • Gynecological conditions
  • Breast, uterine, cervical, and ovarian cancers
  • Menopause symptoms
  • Hormone imbalance
  • Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
  • Obesity
  • Infertility
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Other chronic diseases

Dr. Agim and her team can screen you for these and other women’s health issues before they become problematic.

What happens during women’s health visits?

During women’s health checkups at Suncoast Medical Group, you can expect the following:

Vital signs check

Your specialist evaluates your weight, body mass index (BMI), pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs when you arrive for your women’s health checkup.

Medical history review

Dr. Agim discusses your medical history, including the symptoms you have, personal and family history of diseases, past surgeries, and medications you take.

Physical examination

Dr. Agim examines your eyes, throat, neck, breathing, heartbeat, abdomen, and pelvis during a women’s health exam. Then, she completes a breast and pelvic exam to evaluate your reproductive organs. During a Pap test, she inserts a speculum into your vagina and swabs a sample of cervical cells to screen for cancer.

Diagnostic tests

Based on your health and risk factors, Dr. Agim might suggest additional diagnostic tests. Examples include urine testing, blood tests, mammograms, ultrasounds, heart function testing, or psychological tests to screen for depression and other mental health challenges.

Treatment as needed

Common women’s health treatments include medical weight loss, vaccinations, birth control, and lifestyle changes. Additional treatment offerings include medications, hormone therapy, dietary supplements, and minor surgical procedures.

Dr. Agim can refer you to a specialist for further diagnostic testing or treatment if you have a complex women’s health problem or if you’re pregnant or trying to become pregnant.

How often should I schedule women’s health exams?

Schedule a women’s health exam with Suncoast Medical Group every year or more often if Dr. Agim recommends it because of a medical condition. Come in if you experience new or unusual symptoms of a women’s health problem, you become pregnant, or you have concerns or questions about your health.

If you’re due for a women’s health exam, call the Suncoast Medical Group office or book an appointment online today.
