Primary Care Q & A

What is primary care?

Primary care is a branch of medicine that prevents, diagnoses, and treats illnesses and diseases. Dr. Agim and her exceptional staff have many years of experience managing common medical conditions, such as:

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Asthma
  • Allergies
  • Arthritis
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Other mental health disorders
  • Obesity
  • Colds, flu, and COVID-19
  • Other illnesses
  • Injuries

Primary care includes preventive services like medical weight loss, diet and exercise counseling, and vaccinations. In addition, Suncoast Medical Group provides comprehensive men’s health and women’s health care services.

What happens during primary care appointments?

During primary care appointments at Suncoast Medical Group, you can expect the following:

Vital signs check

Your specialist evaluates your weight, body mass index (BMI), temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and other vital signs when you arrive for a primary care visit.

Medical history review

Your provider reviews your medical history. Your record includes past diagnoses, family medical history, medications you take, and symptoms you have.

Physical exam

During a physical examination, Dr. Agim evaluates your throat, eyes, ears, neck, breathing, heartbeat, and reflexes. She may complete a pelvic exam and Pap test in women to screen for cervical cancer or perform a prostate exam in men.

Diagnostic testing

If you experience unusual symptoms or are at risk of an illness or disease, Dr. Agim might order specific diagnostic tests. Examples include urine testing, blood tests, asthma or allergy testing, nasal or throat swabs, heart function tests, X-rays, or other imaging procedures. She can also complete skin biopsies.

Treatment when needed

You don’t need treatment after a primary care visit if you’re in good health. However, the Suncoast Medical Group team may suggest you make diet and exercise changes, lose weight, take medications, undergo behavior change counseling, use an inhaler, receive allergy shots, or see a specialist.

Suncoast Medical Group also offers vaccinations to reduce your risk of getting sick.

When should I schedule primary care appointments?

Schedule a primary care visit with Dr. Agim once yearly for a physical exam, or if you get sick, experience unusual symptoms, or have questions about your health. She’s always available to address concerns or help you lose weight if that’s your goal.
