Physical Exam Q & A

What is a physical exam?

Physical exams are medical visits to evaluate your overall health and wellness. During a physical, Dr. Agim ensures you’re healthy or detects medical problems before they become serious. During a work, school, or sports physical, she ensures you’re fit enough to participate safely.

What happens during a physical exam?

With a physical exam, the Suncoast Medical Group often completes the following steps:

Vital signs check

Your Suncoast Medical Group specialist evaluates your weight, blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), pulse, and other vital signs when you arrive for a physical exam.

Medical history review

Dr. Agim discusses your medical history to assess chronic disease risk factors. She asks about family and personal history of diseases, symptoms you have, past diagnoses, and medications you take.

Physical evaluation

During a physical evaluation, your provider assesses your eyes, vision, ears, throat, neck, breathing, heartbeat, reflexes, and more to ensure you’re in good health or detect problems before complications arise.

Diagnostic testing

If needed, Dr. Agim has you complete urine testing, heart function tests, asthma or allergy testing, blood tests, X-rays, or other imaging procedures.

If you have a medical condition, Dr. Agim may suggest you undergo treatment to recover from an illness, better manage a chronic disease, or heal after an injury. She and her team might recommend you make diet or other lifestyle changes, get more exercise, sleep more, reduce stress, or lose weight.

She may suggest an inhaler, prescription medications, allergy shots, hormone therapy, injury care, or other treatments to reduce your risk of complications.

Dr. Agim can refer you to a specialist as needed for further diagnostic testing or treatment if you have a complex medical problem.

When should I schedule a physical exam?

Schedule a physical examination yearly to ensure you’re in good health or if you need a physical for school, sports, or work. You can book an evaluation with Dr. Agim if you have new or unusual symptoms or have concerns about your health.
